Mint Hill was settled around 1750 and calls itself the first town created in Mecklenburg County. It gave up its charter in 1910, ran without a town government for 61 years and incorporated again in 1971. The 2020 census counted 26,450 people. The town straddles the county line: most of it is in southeastern Mecklenburg County and a smaller part is in Union County.
